Originally, Warhol had not made this portrait of Che Guevara. It was in fact a forgery created by Gerard Malanga (who needed money) and sold to a gallery in Rome. When Warhol heard about the fraud, he "authenticated" the fake, on the condition that all the money would be returned to him.
