Biografie

Joan Ponç i Bonet, catalan painter, born in Barcelona on November 28, 1927 and died in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, on April 4, 1984.

Joan Ponç Bonet's work was a reflection of his tormented life, which saw light in Barcelona a 28 November 1927. Three years later came his brother Antonio and in 1936 his sister Marisol. From 1940 to 1942 he was internal school of the Salesians of Mataró, and the following year began to study painting in the workshop of Ramón Rogent, a painter that has always had a great admiration. At this time he met Joan Vinyals, an antiquarian who walk the time became his first dealer. In 1944 was born your sister María Rosa, who died in 1956; shortly before the birth father left the family.

To the 20 years already held his first exhibition, and he met the pastelero-poeta J.V.Foix, the poet and playwright Joan Brossa, critic and philosopher Arnau Puig, the typographer Enric Tormo and attended the tertulia 'The campaign'. They were times of certain liberalization within the Franco regime. He presented his first solo exhibition at the 'art room' of Bilbao. In 1947 he founded the magazine "Algol" (of which a single number would appear) in the company of Francesc Boadella, Joan Brossa, Jordi Mercadé, Arnau Puig and Enric Tormo. This short-lived magazine would be the embryo of another more important, "Dau to Set", of which Ponç became director. The homonymous art group was formed from this publication.

After a brief stay in Paris at the hands of Joan Miró, a mention at the Sao Paulo Biennale in 1955 provided le a scholarship for study in Brazil, where he founded the group "L'espai". That same year he founded the group "Taüll", with Marc Aleu, Modest Cuixart, Josep Guinovart, Jaume Muxart, Mercadé, Antoni Tàpies and Joan-Josep Tharrats.

Ten years later, in 1965, would get the great international drawing prize of the Biennale.

His painting presents while mourners and tortured ghostly images, in which the subconscious is the protagonist. To Ponç art is nothing but a introduction to the mystery and secrets that encloses the spirit. Cartoonist to painter, his work is detailed and meticulous.

Exhibited in Barcelona, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Bonn, Geneva, Tokyo and Madrid, among other places.

His works are today in various private and public collections such as the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid.
